Update on Homelessness Task-force 8/14/2020

We have been hard at work. I'm happy to update you all on our progress.

We will be working on opening the Wellness Cooperative Care Center in the Eve Dell Park in old town Victorville.

It is a project to house and help our citizens who have been hardest hit. We are excited to be working with LifeArk.

"LifeArk is a pre-fabricated, modular building system that can create self-sustaining communities on water and land. It is a rapidly deployable response that will mobilize economic development and regeneration for millions of slum dwellers and displaced peoples around the world. "

Victorville Campus Navigation Center, Recuperative Care Center, and Permanent Supportive Housing LifeArk and Illumination Foundation in partnership with the City of Victorville is working on a development for a Homeless Wellness and Recuperative Complex on a 3.95 acre lot. This project would include a Navigation Center, Recuperative Care Center, and Permanent Supportive Housing for homeless individuals. This project is currently in the planning and R&D stages.

The San Bernardino Sheriff's Department has a program by the name H.O.P.E.

According to their website, "The Homeless Outreach and Proactive Enforcement (H.O.P.E.) program is a pro-active approach intended to ultimately reduce calls for service and other resources currently required to deal with the homeless population. A community policing philosophy will be used to link the homeless population with resources and service providers throughout the county. The objective is to stop the revolving door of arrest, incarceration, and then release regarding homeless related crimes."

"The H.O.P.E. program aims to balance pro-active outreach with enforcement of the law, while connecting members of the homeless population with resources that may help them transition from homelessness. The ultimate goal is to reduce the rate of recidivism and reduce the current costs associated to homeless related crime."

Motel 6 and the Sheriff's department under Project Room Key has helped our homeless citizens find shelter in these uncertain times.

The Desert Haven - Queen Motel renovation is due to be completed in September 2020.

According to the Daily Press, "Once complete, Desert Haven will have 31 apartment units, with one manager’s unit, and provide on-site “wraparound” services such as employment assistance and drug and alcohol counseling.
